Aphrodite pressed her lips tightly together to keep from giggling at the sight of Shego in her chiton. The woman reminded her of Neapolitan ice cream, with her pale green skin, pink attire, and dark hair. It was definitely a good thing that Shego looked like the sort who didn’t wear pink often. At the sarcastic request for something green, the goddess immediately compared her to another delicious flavour- mint chocolate chip. The ice cream theme quickly left her mind when Shego took the necklace. A disinterested reaction was almost expected- it was just another way of putting up a defense so she would not have to respond emotionally- and Aphrodite would have been more offended if the villainess had simply refused or tossed it aside.
“Thank you for accepting that, Shego,” she said with a small smile. Oh, the goddess was a romantic at heart! After releasing her bound locks, piled high on to the top of her head, her hair spilling down her back and over her shoulders, the goddess began fishing around in the sand for a makeshift brush. A jagged piece of shell would suffice and as Aphrodite combed the fragile fragment through her tresses, idealistic visions of Shego’s future wandered through her mind. The villainess would come to understand that kindness was something to be appreciated and she would turn over a new leaf, become an upstanding citizen and combat those who wronged others. And it would be all because of her! Another human saved. Glancing over at the mortal, Aphrodite realized that this would not be an overnight success and might take a bit of time.
“So don’t worry about returning that or anything,” she said, indicating the garment. “I’ll send some cherubs to fetch it later.” Clearly Aphrodite was not embarrassed about her lack of clothing. With a light laugh she added, “It has been a most interesting day, Shego. Maybe we’ll run into each other again, hopefully on much better terms. Now I know you’ve already said nothing would change, but, one can always hope!”
Hearts and flowers circled around the goddess and a moment later she had disappeared. Though Aphrodite was no longer visibly present, the first thing she did when she reemerged in her room was instantly check her mirror, finding the beach Shego was at to watch the woman. A few cherubs fluttered over to see what was so interesting, while a couple others brought Aphrodite a robe to slip into.
“She’ll change, my darlings!” Aphrodite promised. “She just needs to find the right person to help her, that’s all. And when she finds someone to love her, all those barriers will come crumbling down, you’ll see.”
