The abandoned beach was no longer abandoned. A single arrow laced with love streaked high over the sand and across a cloudless blue sky. Only a moment passed before the arrow’s sister joined it, both landing in the soft surface below. Hephaestus had crafted a bow particularly for Aphrodite. Since a bulky quiver of arrows would not suit the slender goddess’ figure, he crafted them into the bow itself; one pluck of the string would fire the arrows off. Love was a powerful weapon and therefore Hephaestus ensured that only the goddess’ touch would activate it. Aphrodite fired a few more off into the distance and then tossed the bow aside like it was a worthless piece of junk. She knew her… husband was trying to be sweet by sending her this gift, but she really much preferred her own hearts and powers to something that she had to carry. Bored, the goddess scanned the sand for seashells and began to pick up only the prettiest ones that she found.

Shego was lying peacefully on the warm sand of the beach, wearing a swimsuit rather then her usual cat-suit (although it was decorated in the same Harlequin pattern), with a pair of sunglasses that shielded her eyes from the sun as she stared at the sky. The villainess was close to drifting off, when she became aware of several object dropping out of the sky towards her. She sat up, lowering the tinted glass slightly to clear her vision; however once she realised what they were she quickly rolled out of the way.
“Hey watch it!” yelled Shego in surprise, dodging one of the arrows and deflecting the second with a bolt of concussive energy. She looked around threateningly for the source, soon spotting a vacant looking woman with pink skin and long blonde hair, who seemed more interested in searching for pretty objects then the damage she’d almost caused.
“Okay, Barbie,” began Shego angrily, emerging from behind the sand dune she’d been previously concealed behind, “I’m sure you have a good reason for that,” she grinned maliciously, igniting her hands threateningly, “bad thing for you is, I don’t care.”

The new voice in the area startled Aphrodite, causing her to drop her gorgeous collection. She gasped, horrified that one of the shells broke as it clacked against another and her head snapped in the direction of the female voice. The goddess had expected someone mortal, but not someone’s whose hands were on fire. Aphrodite arched a brow at the flames and then with an exaggerated sigh, she rolled her eyes and exclaimed,
“Why must you all be so violent.” Aphrodite pursed her lips and held her palm up so that the back of her wrist nearly touched her chin. She blew a breath of love, a massive heart flying over to the stranger and across her hands, dispelling the flames.
“Love conquers all.” Aphrodite shrugged a shoulder and then said irritated, “I thought I was alone here. Who are you, anyway?”

“And the lamest power ever award goes to…” muttered Shego under her breath as the oversized valentine’s candy shot towards her. She raised her hands up to block, however it became apparent that the woman’s purpose had been to extinguish the flames rather then attack her in any way.
“Oh yeah, love’s great,” replied Shego sarcastically, “next time I’m at all happy I’ll be sure to turn to love to remedy that.” She sneered at Aphrodite, placing one hand on her hip as she scathingly looked the woman over. She was comely in a freakish, vacant way, though seemed to have a heck of a lot more going on with her body then in her head.
“Shego,” she replied dryly, “let me guess, you’re either Britney, Bonnie or Barbie?” she giggled humourlessly at her own joke; idly examining her nails as she spoke, “some skin you got there. Fall asleep on your make-up kit?”

The name Shego didn’t sound familiar and she could not recall meeting this woman before, so she assumed it that this person was in fact a mortal with powers and not a deity. Either way, she did not like the fact that this hot head was trampling on her gig and it clearly showed on her face.
“Well with that icy attitude, I doubt even I could find someone to love you!” Her eyes narrowed as Shego guessed who she was, her lip curling in offense. Her first act in response was to sprout up into the air, a pink aura surrounding her as she did so. “I am Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty,” she said smoothly. The aura shimmered brightly around her and Shego was only a tall as her knee.

“Yeah, not impressed,” replied Shego in a bored voice, eyes narrowing slightly as she glared at the effulgent Goddess, “it’s no wonder nobody believes in you these days.” She faux-yawned, rolling her eyes behind the sunglasses (which she was secretly glad she was wearing as it protected her from the brightness). The goddess of love wasn’t exactly somebody Shego was crazy about considering her past record with love, after all neither had worked out well at all.
“How’s the weather up there?” asked Shego sardonically, still paying more attention to her nails then to the puce-skinned doll towering above her, “You know I’d appreciate it if you stopped blocking my light.” The goddess was shining so brightly that it more then made up for the sunlight, however Shego wouldn’t ever admit that someone this annoying was helping.

“Watch it!” snarled Aphrodite, flashing a bright magenta which indicated her rising temper. “Don’t let the title fool you, I could easily eliminate you if I wanted to.” Out of spite she refused to shrink at Shego’s request. The woman wasn’t even polite for Gods sake! Something must have gone seriously wrong in her life to make her this moody.
“So what was it that made you so sour? Or is the question who was it?” She placed a hand on her hip and tilted her head to the side, a splash of her golden locks hitting Shego’s arm. It concerned her that the abnormally pale woman had such a bad take on love and she was almost certain that some sort of heartache gave her this hardened attitude. Almost.

Shego rolled her eyes as the Goddess attempted to play agony aunt, flinching slightly as Aphrodite’s specially enlarged hair pooled over her. She attempted to shake it off, however only managed to get her arm inextricably tangled in the blonde locks.
“You want to talk?” asked Shego icily, “fine. Let’s talk. Now, I wonder who it could have been…” she raised her free hand to her mouth, pretending to think the problem over, “it could have been girl one, who attacks me almost on sight every time.” Her voice became even colder, if possible, as her mind went back to the more recent romance. “No, I think it was girl two, who vanished without a trace and seemed like a completely different person on return.” She’d been tugging vainly on her trapped arm throughout this speech; however it seemed to only become more trapped with each attempt to remove it.
“Sheesh Princess what’s this made of, steel or something?”

Aphrodite had been so engrossed in Shego’s story she had failed to notice that the woman was actually stuck. She certainly looked like the type who didn’t like to be disturbed- whoever her constant assailant was, must be one brave fighter- especially if her opponent could light herself on fire. Then again, who knew what this other girl could do. She paid little attention to the second half of the explanation because she suddenly felt a harsh pull on her ever so precious hair! Aphrodite inhaled sharply, her eyes widening in fear as Shego tried to rip her arm free.
“Here, let me,” she insisted, speaking overtop of the tangled up mortal. Aphrodite leaned down, her face dangerously close to Shego’s. With an intently focused gaze and gentle fingers, she picked at the strands of hair until the woman came loose. Not wanting to encounter a nasty situation like that again, Aphrodite returned to a human size, fluffing her hair behind her.
“Are you all right?”

Shego’s eyes widened slightly as she suddenly found the giant sized woman leaning down over her, smooth skin so close to the villainess’s face that she could feel the heat from it. She found herself holding her breath as blood involuntarily rushed to her cheeks; although fortunately she managed to hide this with a cascade of her own hair as soon as they were separated.
“I’m fine Barbie,” replied Shego with a fresh sneer, flicking her own hair back into place and glaring at the once again human-sized goddess, “just keep your tendrils off me.” She half turned away from Aphrodite, highly doubting that the vacant woman had listened to a word she said; not when her precious hair was in danger. The villainess found herself annoyed that she’d opened up, though thankfully her ice shields were up once again.
“Not that his hasn’t been fun,” began Shego, before reconsidering the choice of words and correcting herself, “actually no, it hasn’t been fun. Go away.” She waved one hand dismissively, gesturing for the immortal to leave her presence.

Aphrodite’s eyebrows shot up as she was shooed off. This poor, pallid piece of work was going to learn very quickly that the goddess was a stubborn as love itself. She mouthed the word “wow” before vocalizing,
“Boy, those women must be something awful to have made you sink so low.” Aphrodite cradled her chin in a dainty hand, staring at her in an almost condescending manner. “What’s this ‘Barbie’ thing you keep going on about? Insults won’t make me vanish. And you think I’m going to leave a lost cause like you all alone out here? I wouldn’t be doing my job if I did that.”
She swiftly reached forward and grabbed Shego’s wrist. “Come on, let’s go. We’re going to have a nice chat over here, because clearly you haven’t had enough girl time in your life.” She began to drag Shego away to an area that was shaded.

“Who are you calling low!?” demanded Shego, flaring up in anger and rounding on the goddess once again, only to be silenced by another blush as the woman cradled her face gently. She held her breath for a moment, barely hearing Aphrodite scolding her. There was something not quite natural about the immortal’s ability to silence her like this, especially as it only seemed to happen when they had contact.
“Hey get off me!” she exclaimed, shock drawing her out of the stupor as Aphrodite seized hold of her wrist with unexpected speed and strength and began to drag her away. “You know the blonde hair may be a hit with the guys but it’s not what I usually go for.” Shego may have well not been trying to wriggle her wrist free for all the good it was doing, in fact she was doubtful that Aphrodite even noticed her efforts.
Got to learn how to fight gods.

Light laughter filled the air when Shego mentioned her hair and she shot back, “Understandable, seeing as you get all caught up in it.” As she sat down in the cool spot, she brought Shego down with her. The immortal had full intentions of releasing the other’s wrist, but just as she was about to let go, she noticed something quite peculiar. The mortal’s hands were as white as the rest of her! Aphrodite took hold of Shego’s other wrist and turned them both over, examining the palm and back of her hands.
“Well that’s just incredible!” she exclaimed. “How in the world do you manage to keep your porcelain skin with those magic fingers of yours?” Aphrodite slid her pointer finger around Shego’s wrists trying to find some sort of trick gadget or thin, transparent glove, but there was nothing.

By the time she’d been dragged into the shade Shego was almost positive that Aphrodite wasn’t aware that she’d been trying to escape, or at the very least hadn’t seen the need to acknowledge it. It was almost a scary thought, that there were people who possessed this much power yet didn’t notice when they were hurting others with it. This train of thought was shattered however as the goddess took hold of both her hand and the strange calming influence instantly doubled.
“Some of us happen to look after our skin,” replied Shego tersely, although she couldn’t suppress an involuntary smile at the compliment (and had long since given up trying to suppress the blush in her cheeks whenever the goddess’s strange pink skin was in contact with her).
“Now then, did you bring me over here just to stare into my eyes, or do you actually have a point?”

“Yes, I do have a point, actually,” Aphrodite said highly affronted, dropping the young woman’s hands. “I was going to tell you that love isn’t nearly as bad as you assume it to be and that you’re going to have to drop a lot more of your frigid layers if you ever want a real chance at experiencing it! Look, do you see this?” Once again, Shego’s hand was resting in Aphodite’s, though she’d faced the flushing lady’s palm upward. Yes, the goddess had seen the tinted cheeks, but having encountered so many beings that had the same reactions in her presence, it all seemed quite normal for her.
Aphrodite lightly traced a finger along a line in Shego’s palm. “This line here, it’s a love line. Look how long it is! There’s bound to be a few bumps along the road, but you’re going to end up having a long lovelife. You just haven’t met the right woman yet.” An amused smile flitted across her face next. “It also says over here that you’re attracted to power. Well with hot hands like yours, who wouldn’t be?” Aphrodite leaned back, her free hand brushing the bow she’d tossed aside earlier. “You want to see something interesting?”
She released Shego’s palm and rose to her feet. Drawing back the string on her bow, she held it for a few seconds and when she released it, a shower of arrows shot into the air.
“That’s love in all of those. And let me tell you,” she continued, watching as the arrows spiraled into the water, “There’s going to be a lot of happy fish in the ocean tonight.” She offered the bow to Shego, knowing that the woman couldn’t harness its power. “My dolt of a husband made it for me. Not really my style though.”
