~~~Who I am Inside~~~
What is your character's history? Are they a hero, or a villain, a sidekick or guardian? What has happened to them in their lives to make them the way they are today?
Anna is the daughter of Balthazar Blake and Veronica. Before Horvath’s betrayal of Merlin, the couple had begun their relationship. When Veronica discovered that she was pregnant, Merlin became concerned that the child would be at risk from Morgana. He and Veronica agreed to keep it a secret, and like other ladies of rank at the time, she was sequestered in one of his hideouts during her pregnancy.
Merlin knew that if Morgana got her hands on the child, she would be able to manipulate all three of his apprentices (as Horvath would not risk a child of Veronica’s for his love of her). Veronica agreed to his plan, though it was a daring one—that he would take the child into the future, where Veronica could be reunited with her, once Morgana had been defeated. Having kept the child a secret from Balthazar, Veronica agreed, reasoning that they would all be together once their mission was complete.
The sorcerer took the child into the future, where he could see Morgana being defeated. Seeing that he would not be the one to stop Morgana, he placed her with the Prime Merlinian’s family. He then returned to the past, to prepare tasking his apprentices with finding the Prime Merlinian.
Anna was raised as Dave’s sister, though she learned of her adoption as a young child. This did not put a great strain on the family, who accepted her easily enough. However, once Dave started having “problems” after meeting Balthazar at the Arcana Cabana, it was a bit more of a trial. Anna was an energetic child, and was becoming a spirited adolescent. Her adopted parents often neglected to ensure that she received the same amount of attention as Dave, as they were focused on trying to fix whatever problem Dave had. As a result, Anna grew apart from her adopted parents. By the age of 15 she had grown adept at hacking, and began trying to track her birth family, to no avail.
Anna entered college on the heels of her brother, only a year behind him. She was a freshman when he discovered his destiny and defeated Morgana. Rather tired of being in Dave’s shadow, Anna accepted Horvath’s offer of apprenticeship, not knowing the sorcerer’s plans for her. As Balthazar and Veronica do not know that Merlin placed their child with the Stutler family, they are still looking for her.
Describe your character's personality. What are their strengths and weaknesses, what are their passions? What qualities do they have that are good or bad?
Anna is a straight-up sidekick. She is very loyal to those she deems worthy, but she has a thick skin, and it’s hard to win her trust. She is something of a rebel, but will obey an authority she respects. While she doesn’t crave the spotlight, she is somewhat prideful. She took up an apprenticeship with Horvath because she wanted to be able to one-up her brother. Her two passions are computers and music. She plays the cello in a college metal rock band. Anna is very much a punk, with colorful stripes in her hair that change frequently.
~~~That's How You Know~~~
Give us a small sample of how you will play your character. Please don't copy a scene from their movie, and give us at least three paragraphs.
Anna bit her lip as she looked up at the building. She doubled checked the address in her hand -- sure enough, this was the right place. She just hadn't expected it to be so ... big. Wasn't it more appropriate for a wizard to live in some dark, crowded house? Like the Arcana Cabana -- that 's what came to mind when someone mentioned a sorcerer's dwelling.
But then, that had been Balthazar Blake's style. And from looks alone, one could tell that Maxim Horvath carried himself with a different air. Anna smiled to herself as she approached the doorman. Dave could have the smelly old man who looked like he 'd completely missed the invention of shampoo. She 'd much prefer a man who had a bit of style. Just because she was something of a punk didn't mean she couldn't appreciate taste.
The doorman didn't even raise an eyebrow at her look, or the fact that she looked as though she would be more appropriate in SoHo than midtown. He just opened the door for her with a smile. Anna followed Horvath's direction from there, to an apartment that was nearly at the top of the building. Taking a deep breath to calm her nerves, she knocked on the door. No turning back now.
Horvath opened the door promptly, with a smile. "Hello, Anna," he greeted, stepping back to let her through.
"Hey," Anna answered, looking around the apartment as she entered. She let out a low whistle. "Dude ... you really know how to blow that dark and dank dwelling stereotype to hell, don't you." And boy did it. Granted, the apartment was fashioned in dark tones – a lot of mahogony and other dark woods. It felt very Old World. But it wasn’t like the Arcana Cabana, which had felt as though items had just been gathering clutter for hundreds of years. This was smooth and chic. A gentleman’s apartment. She liked it.
~~~You and Me Together We'll Be~~~
Why this character? What draws you to them, what makes you want to play them? Do you have anything in common with them?
I’ve had Anna as an OC for several months now, and my story for NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) was based on her. Anna is a good underling for Horvath, and I think that she could be an asset to the board and his plots. There’s no telling what sort of mischief a nearly full-fledged sorceress could get into. Also, her relationship with Horvath is complicated and fascinating. I’ve been playing Anna with Horvath’s player since her creation, so we both have a good feel for them. I’m also very interested in seeing how her relationship with Balthazar and Veronica will emerge.
Other than a shared love of music, me and Anna don’t have much in common. But that’s part of why I like her so much.
What would you like your custom title to be? This can be anything you like in reference to your character and will appear under your name.
