What is your character's history? Are they a hero, or a villain, a sidekick or guardian? What has happened to them in their lives to make them the way they are today?
Ariel is the youngest child of King Triton and Queen Athena of Atlantica, and for several years her life under the sea was happy and idyllic. However when she was still only a young girl disaster struck the kingdom, for her mother was killed at the hands of a group of pirates during a family trip to the surface. This incident made the King despise humans, as well as the music his wife had loved. All music was banned from the kingdom and Ariel’s life was thrown into apathy and dull routine.
However ten years later Ariel was re-introduced to the wonders of music by the fish Flounder and from that moment was hooked. She was soon ingratiated into secret society of music lovers, along with Sebastian and (soon after) her six sisters. Unfortunately, due to the actions of the ambitious Marina del Ray, King Triton discovered the club and shut it down, imprisoning the band. Ariel released them from Prison to make their escape, however upon discovering the music box Athena had given to Triton as a gift they decided to return in order to try and change the King’s mind. After a brief confrontation with Marina Ariel was reunited with her father, who finally relented and allowed music within the kingdom once again.
Ariel became fascinated with the human world, collecting any mementos of it she could find and often visiting the surface despite the King’s insistence that it was forbidden (the other result of Athena’s death on the surface). On one of these trips she encountered the human Prince Eric and was able to rescue him when his ship was destroyed in a powerful storm. The mermaid fell in love with the Prince and longed to be human to join him, a desire that led her to take the rash course of action of accepting the Sea-witches offer to temporarily become human. Fortunately despite Ursula’s best attempts to counter it she managed to win Eric’s heart and finally married him, turned human permanently by the power of her father.
Describe your character's personality. What are their strengths and weaknesses, what are their passions? What qualities do they have that are good or bad?
The youngest of seven daughters, Ariel is both adventurous and headstrong, a combination that often leads her to disobey her rather strict father and visit the surface in order to spy on the object of her fascination, the human world. Ariel always comes to a logical conclusion to a problem that faces her, and although she isn’t always correct she prides her answer in at least making sense. Ever since her discovery of music she has adored the art form, singing in her spare time. However she has a tendency to get easily distracted, so rarely performs in public due to being somewhere completely different at the time of the performance. She's always eager to try new things, whether or not they're allowed or the best course of action.

“What a magical place!” exclaimed an excited female voice from amidst the babbling crowd of tourists that was congregated around the entrance to the Magic Kingdom, having just admitted to the park. The source of the voice wasn’t immediately obvious, however as the group slowly thinned and went their own ways the speaker was finally revealed. It was a teenage girl with long, full red hair tied up in a bow and sparkling blue eyes. It was Ariel, former Mermaid princess, dressed in a simple light blue skirt and white blouse, with a dark blue bodice.
“So many wonders,” she continued, beginning to uncertainly walk down the middle of Main Street USA, “I don’t know what to look at first.” Ariel was utterly fascinated by everything around her. She’d been living in the human world for some time now, yet she’d still seen nothing like this before. Why it was like all of her gizmos, thingamabobs and whatsits all in one place, and all doing whatever it was they did. Her collection had been amazing, but this place was on a whole other level.
A nearby rack was crammed almost to bursting point with maps of the park, which due to exposure to the elements were in various states of decomposition; however Ariel managed to root out a single pristine one and carry it over to a bench. She straightened her skirt before she sat down, unfolding the map and folding it closely. It was certainly confusing, for having lived under the water in a rather small kingdom all her life she’d never really used a map before. Fortunately, she managed to work out where she was, for it was directly opposite a café that was marked on the map.
“That’s lucky,” she stated with a grin, “though where should I go now?” She held the map awkwardly in one hand, tracing one finger down the various paths as she planned a route. She shuddered for a moment at the sight of a Pirates ride, remembering with sadness how a crew of buccaneers had taken her mother’s life. No she would steer well clear of that. Instead she traced a route from the café to Fantasyland, deciding from the name that it sounded like a magical place to visit. Folding the map up again, she briefly pondered where she would put it in an outfit with no pockets, eventually deciding on tucking it beneath her bodice. Leaping to her feet, Ariel set off down Main Street once again, humming melodiously as she went.

Why this character? What draws you to them, what makes you want to play them? Do you have anything in common with them?
What can I really say here other than the fact that I love Ariel. I really love Ariel. In many ways she represents the archetype of a teenager frustrated at her circumstances and wanting more, which I think is something that everyone can relate to. I’ve always felt a connection to her struggle to join a world which she doesn’t naturally belong to, and having played her before I know that she’s a lot of fun.
