Movie Character Appears In-- Hercules
~~~Who I am Inside~~~
What is your character's history? Are they a hero, or a villain, a sidekick or guardian? What has happened to them in their lives to make them the way they are today?
-- Meg, or to know her by her full name Megara (it was common for working class not to have last names) was born in the city of Thebes in Ancient Greece, the date is not known, but it is around the times when people worshiped the Gods on Olympus and Heroes still walked the streets of Athens, Crete and all those other Ancient wonders. Her parents were not from a high class background but they had enough money and trade to live by. Meg lived a reasonably happy childhood, she was noted for her sharp intelligence and pleasing appearance, which would one day be her downfall. In fact Meg's life was quite ordinary until her later teenage years.
They say you'll never forget your first love and she never will, for both good and bad reasons. They were happy together, both sets of parents hoping they would marry and it did seem that way for quite some time. Until one hot, humid afternoon in the city, Meg was told the news that her lover had been killed in a hunting accident. Distraught she rushed to him, but there was nothing she could do - humanely. Meg in her desperation travelled to the underworld in attempt to find her lover's soul, where she met Hades for the first time. She pleaded with him and he struck a deal, he would let her lover go if Meg sold her soul. Out of desperation she agreed and the deal was done.
Overjoyed (well, as much as you could be with the knowledge that Hades owned your soul) Meg rushed back to the earth to find her lover, only to find him in another woman's arms. Ashamed, distraught and hurt she ran away and vowed she would never let this happen to herself again. With nothing else to do, she went back to Hades; who was on his latest mission (Kill Zeus, as usual) sent her out to do trivial things for him, persuade various mythical creatures to join his side and things like that. It was on one of these tasks, persuading Nessus the Centaur Meg's life took another swing once more.
It had all been going well (ish) when some adolescent fool jumped off his winged horse with satyr in tow. Later she discovers this to be Hercules, the legendary son of Zeus. Meg dismisses the encounter, but secretly deep down can't deny there is some interest. Later Hades turns up, demanding why Nessus did not agree; and Meg tells her story, completely unaware that Hercules is in fact supposed to be dead. On finding this out (Hades was not a happy bunny) Meg becomes part of his new grand scheme: to destroy Hercules.
Meg is the bait, running to tell Hercules some children are trapped in a gorge (which coincidently is the same one a large Hydra calls home) and stands by to watch Hercules make easy work of what Hades throws at him, and undeniably she is impressed. At a loss, Hades sends Meg to Hercules to try and find his weakness, as you know, all Heroes must have a weakness. Without realizing it she falls in love with him, thus becoming the weakness. When Hades later turns up she refuses to help him any more in the matter.
Hades then uses this to an advantage, holding Meg hostage until Hercules agrees to give up his strength for a day, if Meg isn't hurt. Titans then wreck the city, whilst Hercules is helpless. Meg then borrows Pegasus (with disgust, she hates horses) to find Phil, he is the only one to talk sense into Hercules. They return and Hercules is hurt by Meg's disloyalty, she says nothing. But when Hercules has defeated the cyclops and a pillar is about to topple onto him she pushes him out of the way, so the pillar falls on top of her to show her love for him. Meg dies of her injuries and her soul travels back to the underworld.
Hercules then travels to Hades to save Meg. Hades agrees to let Meg go, if Hercules stays in her place. On jumping into the river Styx it begins it's deteriorating effect on Hercules, but he is immortal and becomes a God due to his actions. He pulls Meg's soul out of the Styx and returns it to her body. Meg finally comes to terms with her feelings for Hercules and despite the Gods offering him a place in Olympus he decides to stay on earth with her.
Describe your character's personality. What are their strengths and weaknesses, what are their passions? What qualities do they have that are good or bad?
-- You can call her Meg, other nicknames are ill received. She is not typical of an average Ancient Greek woman, and would probably be insulted if you took her as one. Sarcasm and dry wit are one of her best assets, using them as a sharp defense mechanism or for general entertainment. She's no philosopher but Meg is sharp and as a rule tends to lead with her head.
Only a few times does she let her feelings guide her. Meg is no stranger to crying wolf either, if she has to blag her way to get something she'll do it. She'll often find herself in a situation where she's bitten off more than she can chew. Sometimes she can come off as distant or harsh, really she is just down to earth.
On the exterior she appears to be a tough person, ironic that on the inside she is quite the opposite. Under the skin Meg is kind, affectionate to the seldom few who manage to see this side. She is also fiercely loyal to those she is close to. However due to her troublesome past she keeps all her emotions tightly under wraps for fear of having the same thing happen all over again.
Her weakness is her emotions and having a constant phobia of letting them take over has allowed her to build this defense mechanism of keeping her head held high, staying strong. Meg has few friends, and they are usually the wrong ones. A lot of the time it seems like she's doing the wrong thing, making a bad choice, but with hindsight, it is for the greater good in the end.
~~~That's How You Know~~~
Give us a small sample of how you will play your character. Please don't copy a scene from their movie, and give us at least three paragraphs.
--This is such a cruel world.
Meg sat in her hometown, Thebes, by a small fountain depicting the legendary Achilles. The soft gush of water was relaxing but at the same time deeply saddening, contrasted ironically with the screams and laughs of the children the other side, splashing each other. When she was a child she would come here with her friends, she understood their innocent joy. The scene was familiar, women hanging their washing out, a few people talking on street corners, a painter sat in the corner, concentrating on his work. One lonely girl sat by herself in what seemed to be a thriving city.
Meg disliked the word 'alone'. It implied you were unhappy. Unhappy was the wrong word, desperate more like. She was quite content as she was, you are your own best friend, the only person you could trust was yours truly. A small sigh graced those small, pouted lips, her lilac irises shrank away from the children to settle contentedly on the ground in front of her as she recrossed her legs. Surprisingly she never had the time for this, just sitting and thinking, being at peace. Something was always happening, or someone putting on the pressure.
Unfortunately it was too good to be true.
Something small and disk shaped whizzed past her nose, making her flinch. Meg glanced up, to the whooping and shouting of three teenage boys. The home-made discus lay a few feet away, a lump of clay broken off what looked like some pottery and one scrambled over to retrieve it. "For the love of Gods..." She murmured under her breath before standing up, sweeping past the adolescents with a nonchalant expression. "Don't let me disturb you. Stealing and vandalizing things, that'll be a good one to tell your employer." She remarked dryly. They snickered stupidly, not quite understanding what she had said, but it didn't matter. She was gone.
