Character Name Ray
Movie Character Appears In The Princess and the Frog

What is your character's history? Are they a hero, or a villain, a sidekick or guardian? What has happened to them in their lives to make them the way they are today?
Ray is a sidekick. :3
Ray was, as he put it, "born an' bred in da bayou." He lived in the extensive swamps in the more rural part of New Orleans with over a thousand relatives, including brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, and his frisky gran'mama. He's always had a huge section of his heart dedicated to his family and the bayou while the whole of it was bestowed upon Evangeline, a name he christened the evening star with, naively thinking she was another firefly.
He was the second creature to meet Tiana and Naveen on their voyage to find Mama Odie and lead them into the right direction. In spite of Louis's bumbling demeanor, he was quick to become friends with him as well. He even assisted removing the prickers from the gator's backside at one point, although it wasn't exactly voluntary.
Towards the one of their last ventures, Ray was the first one Naveen confessed his infatuation with Tiana to and aided him in the romantic department for how to seize her love back. Unfortunately, Naveen was captured by Dr. Facilier before he could issue his feelings to the princess.Ray, along with the help of Louis helped the prince escape and the firefly was able to snatch the talisman away from the good doctor. Ray passed the charm along to Tiana hastily but it was too late for him, because Facilier had heartlessly stomped on his body in the means.
He was found later by Louis, his light giving one final flicker before he faded away entirely. A funeral was held for the poor insect and as he was set adrift the bayou on a leaf, he passed on to the heavens, becoming a star right to his dear Evangeline.
As for how he has revived, Ray has been sent back down to help his friends should they ever get into another strife with Facilier or any of the other villains. Evangeline might put it that he was destined to keep helping and coveting his relationships with the people down on earth.
Describe your character's personality. What are their strengths and weaknesses, what are their passions? What qualities do they have that are good or bad?
Ray is like that eccentric fella that would live in the tumbledown shack in the woods, minus smelling like gun powder and dead skunk. He might seem a bit slovenly, bizarre, and unintelligent but when somebody would get to know him, they'd discover he was really a kind and well-meaning friend. He may not be as pretty as most fireflies are depicted but he can make one melt if they listened to him, especially his crooning and his devotion towards Evangeline.

Give us a small sample of how you will play your character. Please don't copy a scene from their movie, and give us at least three paragraphs.
No matter where Ray headed throughout the brick, beige, and marble-coated vicinity, he was constantly being followed by an earsplitting resonance. From the shouts that were frequently exchanged between the human inhabitants to the intimidatingly large building in the center that belched a thick cumulus of smoke. Now the firefly wasn't exactly opposed to noise as long as it had some sort of jaunty beat to go along with it but he could scarcely hear himself think in the midst of this pandemonium. He'd known the most raucous of blue herons whose singing didn't ail him nearly as much as this and it didn't sedate his tiny, pounding skull.
"HEY! Dere ain't no reason ta yell!" he snapped stridently after a white, wailing device that was zooming past. "Sheesh." Somebody was presumably in a great dispatch but Ray paid it no mind. He'd never discerned an ambulance before until he was launched into the city and probably wouldn't understand the concept even if was broken down to him several times.
A chorus of horns abruptly blared, nearly frightening him to the brink of blacking out and thus causing him to scream as well. Ray glanced over a tattered wing, gradually surveying and becoming acquainted with the new area. He appeared to be in a jam of some sort. Not quite the strawberry kind his cousin Budro loved to gorge himself on but one bestowed by the sizzling engines surrounding him. Feeling far too cornered, he elevated over the muddle between the vehicles and tutted to himself.
"Shee-yoot. Whut a mess, huhn?"
The country boy--or rather, bug flinched for a second, from the beaming, emerald light distorting his vision a few feet away. His ramshackle smile returned and he called over to the would-be coquette. "Yoo-hoooo! Goin' mah way, sugah pah? Y'all dun mind tellin' meh whut dis heah town's name is, d'you?"
The glimmer hesitated for a second as he expected her answer and then blazed a deep scarlet towards him, causing the ruckus-making machines to halt. His antennas promptly drooped at the response. "So sorreh, didn' know you was easileh offended," he attempted to reconcile with the glowing stranger and then flew over to an isolated, slovenly bench. He planted his giant backside on the rusty handle of it and sighed, resting his jaw in his minuscule hands.
"Dis place ain't none too friendly..." he mumbled, hankering to be back with Evangeline.

Why this character? What draws you to them, what makes you want to play them? Do you have anything in common with them?
To be honest, when I first saw Ray in the PatF teaser, I thought I was going to loathe him. Here I was, just rolling my eyes and thinking, Oh great, another annoying sidekick. XP Let's just say I seriously ate my words came the time the film was released. My opinion totally changed once I saw the movie and I got so attached to him. He was funny, surprisingly endearing, and stood out against most sidekicks for me.
