~~~Who I am Inside~~~
What is your character's history? Are they a hero, or a villain, a sidekick or guardian? What has happened to them in their lives to make them the way they are today?
Though her powers to control nearly all manner of plant life would easily place her in the category of hero, on her first day at Sky High, Layla didn't see the need to show off her powers to be placed in a group. She refused to show her abilities, and as such was labeled a sidekick, or "Hero Support". Layla is perfectly content with this. She knows she's powerful, and she doesn't need to flaunt it, nor does she need a label to prove it.
Layla sees the good in most people, even if they'd prefer to keep that side to themselves. She unexpectedly formed a friendship with Warren just days after his brawl with Will in the cafeteria. The pyrokinetic easily saw that she was head over heels for her childhood friend, and pushed her to tell him the truth about how she felt.
Taking Warren's advice, Layla met Will the next day with the intention of asking him to the homecoming dance, only to find out he was going with Gwen Grayson. Hurt, but not willing to show it, Layla told Will that she was going with Warren. When Will freaked out about her going to the dance with his arch enemy, he demanded to know when they even started being friends, to which she pointedly answered "Last night, the Paper Lantern at 8:00." Will was supposed to meet her there, but had been spending time with Gwen and had forgotten his promise to Layla.
Layla went to Will's house later, wanting to make up with him. However, Gwen got to her before Will, and the senior cruelly told Layla that Will was actually avoiding her because he was embarrassed to be seen with her. Barely holding back her tears, Layla told Gwen to tell Will she never wanted to speak to him again. She turned to leave, ignoring Will's voice until she got to the door, before spinning around to tell him that he deserved someone like Gwen.
Layla showed up the next night at the dance, determined to have a good time. However, that was put on hold when Gwen revealed herself to be Royal Pain, an old nemesis of Will's parents, the Commander and Jetstream. As Layla barely escaped the gymnasium with Warren, Zach, Magenta, and Ethan, Royal Pain began using her Pacifier gun to turn everyone else into helpless infants.
They met Will outside, where they informed the young superhero of what he hadn't figured out already. He apologized to the group for being such a jerk, and promptly pulled Layla into his arms and kissed her.
The tender moment was interrupted by Royal Pain's henchmen, Penny, Lash, and Speed. The groups split up, and Penny and Layla squared off in the cafeteria. Layla still avoided using her powers, not wanting to fight. However, when Penny taunted her about not even having powers and slapping her, she was pushed too far. She called up vines from the very floors and ceilings, effectively trapping the cheerleader and her clones, and doing her part to save the school from Royal Pain's destruction.
Describe your character's personality. What are their strengths and weaknesses, what are their passions? What qualities do they have that are good or bad?
Layla is a tree-hugging, never-eat-anything-with-a-face, flower-power hippie, and the people who love her wouldn't have it any other way. Of her circle of friends, Layla is often the voice of reason. This is likely due to her even temperament, and her friendly demeanor. She truly hates fighting, and will avoid it at all costs. However, that doesn't mean she can't be counted upon to help her friends when they need it. She can, and will fight, and her powers make her a force to be reckoned with.
~~~That's How You Know~~~
Give us a small sample of how you will play your character. Please don't copy a scene from their movie, and give us at least three paragraphs.
Layla ignored her phone as it rang for what seemed like the fifteenth time in the past hour.
"Take the hint, Will." Layla murmured, her voice thick with tears.
She meant it when she said she never wanted to speak to him again. Okay sure, she did say that last bit to him about deserving Gwen, but after that, she wasn't going to talk to him anymore, ever.
Her phone gave a solitary beep, signaling that Will had left her yet another voice message. In addition to the half dozen text messages he'd sent, none of which she'd even bothered to read, that was...
Layla seized her phone of the nightstand and shut it off, not wanting to listen to Will trying to call her anymore. She absently reached out to pet one of the cats who had wandered into her room, not bothering to wipe away her tears anymore.
"Layla?" Her mom's soft voice sounded off from the doorway. "May I come in?"
"Yeah, Mom." Layla replied, sitting up on her bed to make room for her.
Mrs. Williams sat down on the edge of the bed, looking at her daughter with concerned eyes.
"Will tried to call the house phone." She said, getting right to the point. Layla huffed in annoyance.
"I won't make you talk to him if you don't want to, honey." She said. "But it seems that you should at least let Will give his side of the story. It seems strange that he would say such things about you. Especially when you're hearing it from someone who doesn't seem like she's the nicest of girls."
"Mom, please, can we not talk about Will right now?" Layla asked, feeling a wave of sobs start to threaten her once more. Her mother was intuitive enough on her daughter's feelings to pick up on this.
"Alright." She said. "Well, let's talk about the dance then."
"I'm not going."
"I thought Warren Peace asked you."
Layla couldn't stop the scoff.
"Warren didn't ask me." She said. "I practically begged him to go with me because I wanted to get back at Will. I don't even know if he'll show up."
"Layla, that's not like you at all."
"I know, I just..." Layla trailed off. She knew deliberately hurting Will was completely out of character for her, and despite what he did to her, she hated that she'd resorted to this just to get back at him. "I don't know."
"Well, I still think you should go." Mrs. Williams said. "And besides, you've got a perfect dress for the occasion."
Layla cast an admiring glance at the green dress that was hanging on her closet. Her mother had sewn it herself.
"Layla, I know you're hurt. But as far as tomorrow night goes, you're going to be a girl having fun with her friends at the dance. I think you'll regret not going. You never know, it could change everything."
Layla smiled at her mother and gave her a hug.
"Thanks, Mom."
~~~You and Me Together We'll Be~~~
Why this character? What draws you to them, what makes you want to play them? Do you have anything in common with them?
After watching Sky High again over the weekend, something about Layla just called out to me. I love her positive outlook, and her sense of style. It was quirky and unique. The fact that she didn't care about being a sidekick said a lot about her self confidence. Plus, I think of all the sidekicks who proved their worth the night of the dance, Layla just shined.
What would you like your custom title to be? This can be anything you like in reference to your character and will appear under your name.
Who else do you play here?
