~~~Welcome to Disney Uncut!~~~
~~~You Ain't Never Had a Friend Like Me~~~
Character Name: Ling
Movie Character Appears In: Mulan (and Mulan 2, unfortunately. XP)
~~~Who I am Inside~~~
What is your character's history? Are they a hero, or a villain, a sidekick or guardian? What has happened to them in their lives to make them the way they are today?
Ling ish a sidekick. Unfortunately there is literally nothing on his back story before he joined the army so I'm just going to try to guess all of those details. I imagine he was probably born and raised in a tranquil little village, much like the one Mulan is from. He must have had a doting mother but a rigid, no-nonsense father that never really gave him a fair amount of attention and had low expectations of him from the beginning. As for siblings, I can see him being the awkward middle child and a tad envious of an older brother. I'll assume he has always been a bit of smart aleck but endearing since he was little and took good care of his younger sibling/s.
When Ling joined the army, it's presumed that he met up with Chien Po and Yao and they all fell in together because they were outcasts and slightly inadequate compared to the other soldiers. He adopted the self proclaimed title of the trio's leader but Yao would constantly compete with him for that position. Eventually he met "Ping" and let "him" take the role of the fourth weird member, being a little reluctant at first, commencing in a few gags aimed towards "him" but then he gradually warmed up to the newcomer.
When he found out "Ping" wasn't legitimately a man, he was completely shocked but still, tentatively, tried to support his new friend after she was thrown to the ground and Shang abandoned her. He was held back and steered away before he could do anything to aid Mulan but it's slightly implied that he developed a soft side towards the girl.
In the climax of the movie, he, Chien Po, and Yao disguise themselves as concubines to assist in saving the emperor. Elsewhere, after an intense battle, Mulan eventually defeats the sinister hun Shan Yu by luring him into the path of fireworks to his apparent death. Ling is seen celebrating with the others at the end, still dressed like a woman. It's really not a good look for him. XP
In Mulan 2, he tells horrible jokes, shoves chopsticks in his nose, sings like a chipmunk, falls in love with some princess with weird hair, blahblahblahblahblah but...let's pretend Mulan 2 never existed, okay? ;P
Describe your character's personality. What are their strengths and weaknesses, what are their passions? What qualities do they have that are good or bad?
Ling is not too dissimilar to anybody's typical best friend. He enjoys playing pranks on others and a decent joke every now and then (or every five minutes XP) but sometimes forgets to remember his boundaries. Thus, he possesses a bit of a trouble maker edge that leads him into getting told off most of the time. He also tends to be a bit of a scape goat if something bad happens and it results in his butt getting kicked a majority of the juncture. Sometimes he deserves it, sometimes he doesn't...but he does have this cracked up notion in his head that he's perpetually innocent during those circumstances he is at fault.
Despite being a bit of a potential wiseacre and kind of shallow to a fair degree, he's exceedingly loyal to those that he cares about and trusts. He has a benevolent side, especially if one of his friends are despondent and he'll do anything he can to coax a smile back on their face. With his moral support, he's a bit reminiscent to a older brother; warmhearted and always there for his siblings. He'll never talk down to someone he's close to and will persist in cheering the individual up at a bleak scenario in his best attempts, even if they're hostile or reject him.
Contrasting to his playful and boyish exterior, he does have his moments of connotation and knows how to listen intently. As far as giving his own input, he'll usually try to weave a little humor into the allude, only coming off as a know it all during occasions that aren't serious.
~~~That's How You Know~~~
Give us a small sample of how you will play your character. Please don't copy a scene from their movie, and give us at least three paragraphs.
A gangly young man traipsed up to thick glass that constricted the pack of tigers, the tip of his prominent nose nearly touching the slick surface as he observed the lackluster creatures. Indeed, it was sweltering out and he could only imagine how burdened they must have felt with those dense coats. Daftly, Ling tapped on the glass, somewhat hoping they'd admonish him and lumber over. All the scrawny fellow received back from the animals were tedious blinks and a few more sustained doldrums.
Thus, Ling frowned and then parroted their fatigue expressions, letting his own mouth descend into an exaggerated yawn. Seconds later, his thin lips parted into a blithe smile that only promised devilry ahead. "Aaaa-ahhh..." he faux-yawned a second time and pressed his forehead lightly to the glass, lowering his puckish eyelids derisively.
"Well, aren't you all the exciting group?" Ling chirped, drumming ivory, slender fingers against their translucent cage. The tigers merely surveyed the lanky youth dully, a couple of them choosing to rest their vast chins into their paws and turn away. A cat nap seemed more enticing than paying attention to this little screwball. Security mustn't have been tight that very jucture for Ling continued to knock on the glass, disregarding the numerous signs that prohibited it.
"Hmmph! Hello?!" he demanded, his tone brief yet grating, willing to keep their heavy, sleep deprived eyes on him. "Now, level with me, my fuzzy acquaintances, would you agree that this is right? An immense lot like you crammed in this teeny, tiny box? I should say not! Incredible animals like yourself should be able to roam wherever they see fit!" Ling was quite an idiot at random spans, but not entirely heartless.
"Don't you guys understand? Don't you guys want to be freeeee?" he practically sang the last word, gyrating on his heel, rather lacking the grace and tact most soldiers were known for.
He gave a mouse like squeal, flogging meager wrists about while he tried to keep his balance and his briefly inspired countenance smashed into the glass. This resulted in an ample crevasse emerging onto the exterior of the tiger's "jail". Ling toppled backwards, praying silently that it wouldn't shatter. Fortunately, after a slew of delayed seconds, it didn't and he heaved a fleeting sigh, trying to wriggle back onto his feet. That was clo--
A beefy fist seized the young man by his pencil neck tightly while a second male, a considerably tremendous and convulsed looking one with a shaggy mustache, lifted him back onto his feet abruptly. Presumably one of the zoo keepers, determined to keep both the monkeys inside and outside the cages in line.
"What in the right heck do you think yer doin', provokin' the animals like that?!" the bear-like individual grunted, lightly dousing Ling with saliva.
Ling's narrowed pupils widened and his skinny, lower lip quivered while he tried to splutter out an explanation. "With all respect, burly sir, I wasn't bothering the tigers! I was trying to release--"
The man lifted Ling's spindly bodice and snapped his creaky legs, much like one would with the rubber band on a sling shot. Within a fraction of a second, the smaller man was liberated into the air like a rocket, emitting a high pitched screech. He crash landed into the exact same tree his friend was dwelling beneath, his frame encircling a branch like rickety hula hoop before he plummeted into her lap.
"OH!" Ling elevated his dark eyes, one of which obscured by a particularly nasty looking bruise, while he gave the headstrong but at the same time, lovely girl a crooked smile. "Hi Mulan! Fancy meeting you here!" he piped up casually.
~~~You and Me Together We'll Be~~~
Why this character? What draws you to them, what makes you want to play them? Do you have anything in common with them?
I picked Ling because he's a great, if a little under appreciated sidekick and he definitely deserves more recognition as a Disney character in general. He's hysterical, spastic, would be extremely fun to hang out with, and at times, he also has a sweet demeanor that makes you wanna hug him. I'd even fess up to say that he appeals to me more than muscle man Shang. O.o *blush*
What would you like your custom title to be? This can be anything you like in reference to your character and will appear under your name.
Adorkable. ~.^
Who else do you play here? Brer Fox (and eventually Princess Tiana) :3
