Character name:
Test: Aphrodite is the Greek goddess of love and is one of the twelve Olympians. Along with being the goddess of love came being the goddess of beauty. In Greece Aphrodite is the fairest of them all. With her light pink skin, golden locks, voluptuous curves, long legs, sapphire eyes, and pouting lips, no one could surpass her good looks and Zeus help the poor soul who brags that she can. Even though she knew no one could ever match her attractiveness, Aphrodite could be extremely jealous of mortal women who were exceedingly beautiful according to their own kind.
Despite her touches of arrogance and understandable vanity, Aphrodite does have a good heart. Many condemn her of having loose morals because she’s engaged in intimate activities with Greeks and other Gods, though she is betrothed to Hephaestus. What those people who share such thoughts don’t understand is that being the goddess of love means that she has a lot of it to give in many different ways. Aphrodite does have a kind heart and Disney has developed her to be an intelligent goddess. The television series Hercules shows that she gets along with all the Gods except Hades (an allusion to the ‘hmph’ she throws at him when he compliments her in the film). The reasons behind this are never explained and the (future?) rper of her has been forced to take creative liberties with this. (NOTE: Hades’ rper has given her blessing).
The television series has Hades turn to a puddle of hot mush whenever Aphrodite appears before him. Being the infinitely desirable goddess that she is, his behavior is natural and acceptable. In the episode ”The Big Kiss” Hades even musters up the courage to confess he wishes to date her. Aphrodite is quick to reject him, finding his ‘sulfur breath’ repulsive. A deeper explanation seems to be needed if the Olympians have been around for eternity and Hades has been lusting for long. Aphrodite had always tolerated Hades’ infatuation, occasionally teasing him herself for the mere fun of it, but his sale pitches grew tiresome after a while and being almost constantly cooped up in the Underworld didn’t help either. The Underworld was no place for a stunning immortal like her anyway. After countless years of rejection, though Hades had tried, he kidnapped that sapling Persephone.
Persephone and Aphrodite had always gotten along and she was someone whom Aphrodite considered to be a true friend. When Hades abducted her Aphrodite was furious but nothing could be done once Persephone had eaten the food of the Underworld and it was a surprise to many when they learned the pair had actually fallen in love. Though she was shocked, Aphrodite was willing to officiate over her friend’s marriage, respecting the fact that Hades was capable of love. While Hades still annoys her, Aphrodite has remained on good terms with Persephone and spends time with her when she returns to the earth.
I'd like to play Aphrodite because she's the only goddess that I find I can be really flexible with in terms of stretching between her mythological history and the Disney version. I've only ever seen a few of the TV series episodes (her valley girl voice is sooo.... not Greek), so I'm mostly basing her off of the few snippets she had in the film and slightly off of the two episodes I saw her in. My characters on DU consist of a heroes and villains and Aphrodite would give me the chance to play a really different characte from anyone else whom I might have.
Roleplay
Love came in many forms. There was the kind of love a child felt for its mother, warm and true. That same child could find love for the family pet. There was the dizzying kind of love one felt when first entering a new relationship, and the raw, passionate, uninhibited love, two people could experience in the most heated of moments. There was eternal love, pretend love, possessive love, and even acts committed in the name of love. Aphrodite was the goddess of love. Yes, she was in charge of the whole kit and caboodle; everything associated with this complicated emotion was placed upon her slender shoulders. While a host of variations came with the title, Aphrodite was mostly associated with romantic love. Wherever she went love was in the air and there was plenty of it to be spread around Greece.
Up on Mount Olympus Aphrodite was busy pulling a jagged shell through her thick blond tresses. The smiling reflection in her mirror scowled when the eggplant coloured Narcissus arrived, practically shoving her aside so he could get a good look at himself in the reflective object.
“Ugh, do you mind?” Aphrodite asked, sounding highly offended. “Some of us have work to do, you know. I’ve got a temple to look after and I need to look my best!” With a small smirk she added, “Even though I always do.” Narcissus was too absorbed in himself to pay her any attention and with an annoyed look, she pressed her finger to the glass, where it shimmered into a vision of her temple at Acrocorinth. Once the handsome image of Narcissus faded, he shot the goddess a nasty look and the stormed off to find a different surface in which to admire himself in. Aphrodite shook her pretty little head and stared at the vast space dedicated to her, just waiting for someone to call upon her.
Who else do you already play? Hercules, Hook, Amelia, Chernabog
