The last curler came out with a –pop- as she yanked it out of her hair, completely unaware that a few precious strands had gone as well; Aphrodite was so focused on the conversation going on that she had not even noticed. The goddess’ sapphire eyes were fixed firmly upon the smug face Melinoe wore and she murmured,
“Don’t you tell her. I did what you wanted. Don’t you tell her.” And maybe Melinoe wouldn’t! She seemed to be liking the idea of toying with Persephone too much anyway. The goddess’ heart was pounding so loudly in her chest she was having trouble hearing the rest of what Melinoe was saying, but judging by the look on her best friend’s face, nothing had yet been revealed
“Oh, by Zeus Persephone, tell her what you want to know so I can know what it is you're thinking.”

"You don't know?" Persephone's tone was scathing. "I find that hard to believe."
She hadn't seen the look on Melinoe's face, but there was just something nagging at her...something telling her....
"C'mon, Melinoe, you've committed so many crimes, I know that. But really, which one do you think I'd be talking to you about?" She raised an eyebrow.
But maybe she really was telling the truth. Maybe she had no idea. And maybe she really hadn't done it. Persephone actually was hoping she had - it would kill Warren to have his rapist remain a mystery, at least if it had been Melinoe, he could know who she was, he could know to avoid her....
"Do you know Warren? Macaria's boyfriend," Persephone asked patiently, tapping her sandal-clad foot on the floor of the cave.

Melinoe would have smiled again if she hadn't been facing her mother.
Her hunch had been right. It was about Warren, all about Warren....
"Hmm," she mused, bringing a hand up to her chin and playing innocent, "The name is ringing a bell but I don't recall meeting him..."
And then slowly, very slowly, a smirk spread across her face and there was a glint in her eye as she revealed through facial expressions that yes, she had met Warren, yes, she knew what Persephone was talking about, and yes, she had done the crime.
But no words were passed...

The goddess had been sucking nervously on lower lip, but when Persephone asked about Warren, she stopped and tried to figure out why she would bring such a question to Melinoe. What was so wrong about him? Based on their conversation over the spring, Persephone seemed more than willing to allow Macaria her desired freedom when it came to selecting her own true love. Of course… at that time, Macaria didn’t have one yet. As Aphrodite had often seen, parents tended to go a bit batty when finally faced with the concept of their children dating. The goddess gasped when she suddenly realized what her friend could be talking about. The enchantment! She had put Warren under a love spell and Persephone must have found out about it! But why would she bring that issue to Miss Doom and Gloom?
All tension seemed to leave Aphrodite in a great big sigh of relief and she lazily began to brush her hair out, though her eyes never wavered from the scene below.

Persephone stared at Melinoe as she smirked slowly, and although the godlings words denyed any involvement in the rape...
...well, her facial expression said otherwise, and Persephone choked back a gasp and narrowed her eyes instead. Her stomach felt like ice.
The goddess' fists clenched.
"You sick, sick girl," she hissed at her daughter, then stepped fowards to her, closing the little space they had had between them.
She had been about to say something else, but the words died on her tongue, and she forced herself to remain calm. Maybe she was just imagining things. Maybe Melinoe really wasn't involved, and Persephone was just projecting her worries and fears for Warren and Macaria and herself into this confrontation.
Persephone spoke again, taking on as calm a tone as she could.
"Melinoe. Be honest. Please. I need to know the truth."
She took a breath, then looked down at Melinoe. Hesitantly, she knelt so that she was eye-level with the little goddess, and Persephone stared into her blue eyes, a bit frightened with how little emotion were in them. It was like...looking into ice...
"Melinoe, did you rape Warren?" Persephone's own eyes were pleading as she stared at Melinoe.

Melinoe's smirk remained on her face as Persephone brought forth the inevitable question.
There was a long pause between the two, and Melinoe folded her arms behind her back, pursing her two toned lips in thought.
To anyone else it would look like she was trying to remember whether or not she had raped Warren, but in reality, she was working out her game plan. Admit it now or deny it? Change the subject? Stall? If she admitted her role in little Wrennie's scarring incident, the game would end, and she would be bored once again.
"Maybe," said Melinoe cryptically, her eyes sparkling, and she backed away from her mother and paced in a slow circle around her; her plan was set.
"Hmm," said the goddess, "Mommy, don't you think Hades is an awful hypocrite?" Her smirk downgraded to an innocent smile as she swerved around Persephone's inquisition. She knew that her mommy wouldn't stick to the matter at hand - she'd just have to know what she was talking about, and would ask, and then Melinoe could take her mind off Warren completely.

The goddess ceased paying attention to her luscious locks when Persephone finally released her concerns. What in the name of Zeus and Hera was Persephone talking about? Aphrodite scowled as Melinoe took the time to reflect upon the question. Who was she fooling? It was a simple answer, yes or no. Clearly the subject was serious enough- and Melinoe was wicked enough- that this memory block was nothing but an act. How could Warren even let that wasted piece of immortality close enough to-… and then it hit her. What if Warren didn’t know it was Melinoe. Rhea’s warning came back to her; that she had to make Warren and Macaria fall in love early so the family wouldn’t fall apart later on. And Melinoe had blackmailed her into helping her appear as Persephone.
Slowly the pieces began to come together. Aphrodite’s throat suddenly went dry and she held her breath while she waited to hear the answer. Instead, Melinoe changed the subject completely. Hades? What did Hades have to do with this- he didn’t ruin anyone’s life. … Recently.

"Maybe?!" Persephone repeated, her eyebrows shooting up in disblief, "What do you mean, maybe?! There's no maybe. How can you not know if you raped someone or not?"
Melinoe's annoying vagueness only furthered Persephone's initial suspicions. If she hadn't done it, she would have just denied it, right?
But Melinoe was a tricky individual. Even if she truly hadn't touched Warren, she was the type of twisted goddess to just play along and make things a mystery.
Persephone opened her mouth, about to press the matter further, but no sound came out as Melinoe abruptly changed the subject.
She knew that she shouldn't be listening to her, and yet....curiousity, and the mention of her husband intrigued her just too much. Persephone bit her lower lip, tried to figure out what she meant, then quickly gave up and took the bait Melinoe was cruelly dangling in front of her.
"A hypocrite," Persephone repeated, "Uh-huh. Do explain."

Hook, line and sinker, mother dearest.
Melinoe continued to pace around Persephone, a slow and steady circle that didn't waiver even as Persephone asked - nervously? Was that a touch of anxiety in her voice? Melinoe hoped so - about what the hell she meant.
Melinoe merely shrugged.
"Hades thought you were a rapist, didn't he."
It was a statement, not a question, and as she saw Persephone tense, Melinoe realized happily that she had succeeded in striking a nerve.
"They all did, right? All of them thought you were to blame for poor wittle Wrennie's predicament." Her smile turned eager. "Right?"

"Oh, gods...you did do it."
Persephone stared at Melinoe, a pained expression on her face. How else could she have known about her being framed?
The evil, sick, twisted little child...
But at the moment, finding out what the hell she was talking about in terms of Hades was more important, selfishly enough. Persephone hung her head, biting her lower lip again. She felt oddly obliged to answer.
"I...he..." She looked away, turning from her and folding her arms. "He accused me of rape. He...he accused me of cheating on him." Persephone sighed.
"Macaria thought I did, too, but....but Warren should have told her...Warren knows I didn't--" She stopped abruptly and whirled around. What was she doing?!
"I'd prefer not to disclose the details to you," said Persephone coldly, her nose in the air, "So. Hades being a hypocrite...let's get back to that, shall we?"

Aphrodite felt absolutely disgusted at Melinoe’s revelation; not to mention she was also mortified with herself. She helped orchestrate this whole thing! If Melinoe hadn’t seen her and Hades together this might have never happened. And what about Rhea?! Why would Rhea allow this; it made no sense? Guilt swept over the goddess, the colour in her face paling. What if Persephone found out that it was Aphrodite who transformed Melinoe? The deity would start to pressure her for more answers. Melinoe swore she wouldn’t tell a soul about what she had seen but… Persephone wasn’t a soul. Another question popped into her head at this thought. Had Rhea known that she and Hades would-
"He accused me of rape. He...he accused me of cheating on him." Persephone sighed.
Aphrodite swallowed hard and glared at the image of Melinoe. “Don’t you dare, you unworthy immortal. Don’t you dare! You promised me.”
Already she knew it wasn’t worth waiting to find out if the wretched daughter was going to spill the olives or not; she had to get to Hades. Aphrodite was so panicked that she forgot she was still in her robe when she vanished to Hades’ chamber.
